081111 version – in order of first occurrence.

1

This version will be known as Mishkan T'filah ‘World Union’ Edition

2

It will maintain a strong family link to MT and the pagination will be largely maintained so that this and other versions can easily be used together.

3

The cover will say 'A Progressive Siddur' and Reform will be changed to Progressive throughout as appropriate – eg in notes where it says 'As Reform Jews...' we amend to 'As Progressive Jews...'

4

It will be printed on high quality, high opacity but thinner paper, making the book more than a third lighter, which also reduces shipping costs and trees consumed in manufacture.

5

There will be two marker ribbons included.

6

There will be regional dedications and donors (fund raising opportunity)

7

There will be a detailed alphabetical contents page.

8

There will be a brief introduction to, and history of, the World Union.

9

In the English rendition, 'God, Eternal One, Eternal God etc will be used instead of 'Adonai' to suit the prayer language and flow.

10

A range of corrections to transliterations and directions will be made where errors or omissions have been found.

11

There may be some brief additional educational notes as useful, and short additions to some of the existing ones, to give possible explanations as well as practice, to enable 'Educated Choice'.

12

The full Shema will be included once and will be noted throughout.

13

Some slight changes to English where it is very Americanised, eg 'Star-spangled sky' to star covered sky!

14

All versions of Kaddish to be reset with indented parts indicating responses.

15

In the second blessing of the Amidah, we hope to remove the Winter/summer options and inserting 'Mashiv haruach umorid hageshem, mazriach hashemesh umorid hatal - You cause the wind to blow and the rain to fall, the sun to shine and the dew to descend' (for year round use). In his prayerbook, Minhag America, Isaac Mayer Wise used the prayer for dew and rain as a permanent part of this blessing, and we build on this with an innovation introduced by Siddur Lev Chadash, UK Liberal Movement, which also includes the wind, as traditional, but adds sunshine, so we are acknowledging our dependence on the natural cycles of the world.
